I've been a community activitist all my life.  As an elected councillor in London I fought the Poll Tax, Fuel Poverty and ran regular Money Advice surgeries.

As an elected delegate to TUC Conference I successfully moved a proposition in support of the Heritage Industry. 

I worked for many years as an advice worker - helping families with children with special needs, especially autism in London, and then offering careers and training advice and information here in Teesside.

Working alongside local residents and councillors I developed and managed the Employment theme for Hartlepool New Deal for Communities before becoming a Neighbourhood Manager in Middlesbrough, tackling arson, fly tipping and social isolation. Finally as Operations Officer for Middlesbrough Town Centre I enjoyed working alongside shops and pubs to make the town centre a nicer place to visit, developing key projects such as the Busking Scheme, Boro Angels and Cafe Rendez vous, a pilot for the new safe haven.
